Text Box: As I sit here in pain, and write this short essay, I am wondering how I could profit from my experience. And then I go back to what my father had said, and realize that I already have.
GORANS GOSSIP
Just to get the ball rolling for the next installment of the Telltale, I personally am not going collect any gossip/rants/bones-to-pick, so I have enlisted the resources of an anonymous writer who is willing to be the Tattle Tale. She has a rapier wit and will hold no punches but wants to remain anonymous. So if you want to contact her Text Box: catapult when the leeward bow decided its time to go underwater. So one must be ever vigilant of the leeward bow and be ready to let go the main when that bow decided to submarine. If you are too slow you will feel the wrath of the 16. The other way is to lean out on the leeward side and tip the boat over. Now John and I are no light weights and righting a 16 did not take much effort at all, but if your slight of build it can be tricky. Unfortunately, I was using one of my costae fluitantes (floating rib) as a fulcrum point on the edge of the Hobie hull. I felt a sharp pain like a buckle on my PFD had decided to enter my rib cage but alas there was no buckle or other protrusion. Alas, I concluded it was a fracture rib.
Text Box: tiller extension behind the main sheet before you tack!
Trimming the sails is also fun. The traveler acts as the main sheet and the main sheet acts as the boom-vang. You can sheet in the sail using the traveler and then adjust the main sheet so that your sail shape is optimum. I’ll leave it up to John et al. for the more technical explanations.
Capsizing the Hobie 16 can be done in a few ways, some intentional and some unintentional. The 16’s are prone to pitch poling. That is to say that they act as a sort of human Text Box: Page #
