WYC Chief System
At Washington Yacht Club we realize that some members have prior sailing
experience and simply want the opportunity to go sailing without going through a
lesson program. That is why we have the chief system.
Chiefs are experienced club members and instructors who will take the time to
verify your experience and issue you a rating on the spot. Remember,
chiefs are not out to fail members - chiefs are happy to supply any special
rigging instructions necessary to sail a boat.
Additionally a chief at the WAC can issue out "temporary" ratings and
therefore sign members out in conditions where they normally wouldn't be allowed
to sail, which is a great way to get more practice time on the water before
taking a test to get your next rating.
Most club chiefs hold hours by appointment, or they simply announce on the
WYC info list that they will be at the WAC.
But one chief, designated the club Ratings Examiner, holds regular hours at the
WAC to help members get ratings.

Club Chiefs
All chiefs are qualified to give out all SH and DH dinghy ratings. Some
chiefs can give out additional classes of ratings. (Chiefs: If you do not appear on this list, it is because your membership has not been updated in the database--please contact the Program Director to fix this.)
